Movin' On Up

23 February 2013

Not to a deluxe apartment in the sky, unfortunately, but to an A5! And I'm loving everything about it! The bigger rings, the bigger pages, the bigger...well, everything! I'm not going to go into detail about my set-up because it's pretty much the same as it was in the personal Malden (see it here). I wanted to replicate the set-up as much as possible. I'll let the pictures do most of the talking now. But, I should warn you, there's lots of them!

Fickle Friday

15 February 2013

If you read my last post, I mentioned very briefly that there were some changes regarding my Filofax and my overall planning system. You might also remember a post I did featuring the pocket Baroque that I recently purchased off of eBay. Well, I'm not downsizing from my personal Filofax to a pocket, if that's what you're wondering. Nope. I'm actually going the other way. UP the other way, to an A5!

Now, I know I said I only preferred the personal size Filofax. And, it's true. I did. Well, I still do, really. I like the portability of it and I still think it's just the perfect size to write in--not too small, or too big. In fact, I've even wondered why anyone would want more than one size Filofax in their collection. Until, of course, one day, I looked at my poor, overstuffed Malden and thought, "that's it". Lately, I've taken on more responsibilities (perhaps school being one of them) which, in turn, will require more planning and organization. I just couldn't imagine adding another section to my Filofax, stuffing it even more than it already is. It has gotten so plump and heavy that I've even been leaving it at home rather than lugging it around in my already stuffed bag (mommy/toddler stuff + regular purse essentials + obese Filofax = my poor aching back!). I had originally planned on sticking with the personal Filofax as a strictly leave-at-home-desk planner and using it alongside a pocket Filo (hence the pocket Baroque and Malden) which I could use for essentials (to-do's, lists, etc.) while on the go. But, I still needed more room. I could have broke free from my "all-in-one-place" mentality and divide my planner into several (I have enough personal Filo's, after all!), but I didn't like the idea of having to manage all these different planners for every aspect of my life that needed organizing. You feel me?

So, here we are. I figured, since I was already using the personal Malden as a desk planner, I might as well upgrade to the A5. I still plan on using another Filofax as a capture tool/essentials planner that I could take with me when I'm out and about. The only thing I'm still undecided about is whether to use a personal size Filofax (which will only carry the essentials therefore won't be so heavy in my bag) or use a pocket Filofax as planned. I have several personal Filofaxes already that need to be used and, although I've toyed with the idea of selling some of them, I haven't quite committed to that idea wholeheartedly. Then there's the pocket Filofaxes like the Baroque. The delicious pocket Baroque that's just waiting to be petted. Hmmm...

Mind you, I'm not really this fickle or indecisive. Ask my brother who's always teasing me about my inability to try something new, even when it comes down to choosing my ice cream ("Seriously? Rocky Road again?!"). For the most part, I know what I like and what works and I stick to it. The personal size planner has been all I needed to get things done and stay on top of things. Even long before I discovered Filofax. With Franklin Covey, I was all over the compact binders. But, life is in constant change. And that's what's wonderful about planners. You could change them--upgrade them, downsize, add things, take things away--to better suit your needs.

Anyway, it was a no brainer deciding which A5 to go with. I needed the biggest rings I could find and I love the Malden range. And the personal Malden in Ochre was my very first Filofax which, sadly, I had to sell so it was only obvious which color A5 Malden I go with. Thanks to Filofax France, I was able to get exactly what I wanted.

Isn't she beautiful? I'm excited to get everything moved in. My plan is to replicate the current set-up of my personal Filofax (which I've made a video of and will share as soon as I figure out how to upload it you can see here) into the set-up of the A5. It's slowly coming together and once I am finally settled in, I'll be doing an update. So, stay tuned and don't stray too far, ya'hear?

Going Baroque

08 February 2013

It's exactly where I'm headed with this Filofax frenzy that I'm on (get it? Going Baroque?). :)

Speaking of, I'm very happy to have this little beauty in my possession. As mentioned before, owning a Baroque has been top of my Filofax wish list. I had been looking everywhere for one with no luck and those people who already own a Baroque weren't willing to let go of theirs. I almost couldn't believe it when, just days after I set my eBay app on my iPhone to notify me of any listings that matched my saved searches for a "Filofax baroque", I heard the "ping" of my phone (like music to my ears) with the message "new item listed matching FILOFAX BAROQUE now available" on my cellphone screen. I nearly pounced on my phone, almost knocking it off of the bedside table, and giving my husband (who was watching this all happen) more reason to believe that his wife is crazy. My fingers couldn't open the app any faster. I was a teeny-weeny bit disappointed though to find it was a pocket size Baroque that was listed and not a personal size. And you know what's crazy? After contacting the seller and asking if he/she happened to have a Baroque in personal size for sale, the seller informed me that he/she had just listed one that morning and I totally missed it! I was even given the link to the original listing as evidence. Curse the whole time difference thing! Anyway, at the price the pocket was being sold for, there was no way I was going to let it go.

And a day after the challenge is over no less! *Hides face in pure utter shame* For the record though, I had very good reasons. For starters, that awful cold I had, and Milk Monsters cold as well.
