Filofax Purple Saffiano

31 May 2013

I couldn't help myself. With all those lovely photos and videos of the Saffiano on several of my news feeds, I just had to see what all the hype was about. It's purple, considerably priced (I've spent far more on other planners before), and shipping was free. All justifiable reasons for putting it into my virtual shopping cart and placing the order, right? Right?

It arrived in due time wrapped, as expected, in a book cover type plastic. No fancy black box this time. Simple, clean, and straight to the point. I really hope Filofax hasn't completely done away with the famous black boxes because I quite like them. I'm a sucker for pretty packaging and the best part of the whole getting a Filofax experience is opening the box and seeing your brand new planner peeking out at you behind tissue paper. Like opening a present every time you go and take it out of its box.

Anyway, the color is a very vivid shade of purple. The Filofax website describes it as "Bright Purple" and it is definitely so. A very cheerful, pick-me-up kind of hue. I had a difficult time trying to capture its true color on my camera. The following two images probably best depict the shade of purple.

This Filofax is made of like leather material and, much like real Italian Saffiano leather, has a scratchy, cross grain effect all over. The interior is lined with polyester fabric. The set-up is simple. On the left there is a secretarial pocket with three card slots.

And on the right, a sleeve-like notepad pocket.

The lack of interior pockets/compartments in the Saffiano may not make this an ideal Filofax for those who like using their planner as a wallet. There aren't many options for storing those random loose notes, knick-knacks, and small treasures, either. I'm not one to use my planner as a wallet so I find the number of pockets acceptable. But, I also like having the option of extra compartments. I don't really use a notepad either, so the open pocket in the back is somewhat useless. There is only one pen loop (surprise, surprise) located on the left hand side of the planner. It is made of elastic material, and stretches out enough to accommodate my Frixion ball knock gel pen and Bic Multi-pen quite easily. My fattest pen, a Frixion multi-pen, would probably fit, but I didn't really try for fear of stretching out the pen loop too much.

My overall opinion? I'm not too keen on the non-leather binders, but if I had to choose among the "like leather" options that Filofax has to offer, I'd go with the Saffiano. It's a very practical binder. I like the simplicity of it and I love the color. Even the one in Teal looks fun, and I recently discovered that there's one in Raspberry, too. Had the Saffiano been my very first Filofax, I would be very happy with it. However, it will not be joining my collection. The crazy obsessed planner hoarding monster that lives in my head wants to keep it. It's so pretty, it says. But, I know I don't need another Filofax that I'm just not 100% crazy about. I'm afraid the Saffiano will be going back to Filofax this week. With the amount of unused planners I've sold in the past month or so, it's just the right thing to do. Take that, crazy obsessed planner hoarding monster! Ha!

Fever 0, Mom 1

24 May 2013

Fevers suck.

Sorry for the lack of posts. I have been a bit busy nursing a sick baby. A fever that we thought we had overcome the previous week came back this week in full force. Thankfully, we've found the source of this fever at a recent doctors visit and are now getting it under control.

Anyway, things should be back to normal soon and that goes the same with this blog. Stay tuned, and here's to a happy (and sick free!) Friday!

Supermoms Assemble!

12 May 2013

Nearly 2 years ago, I was inducted into the League of Supermoms. I still remember the day. It was filled with so much excitement and, I'll admit, a little apprehension. Most of all, it was (and still is) an honor. An honor to be among such a powerful group of women. Technically, I'm still a supermom-in-training, working on earning my cape and special powers. But, I hope to one day be just as great as the many supermoms in my life--my mom, mother-in-law, grandma, and so many more others.

Happy Mothers Day to all the Supermoms of the world. Today, and always, you are loved and honored. ♥

*The above comic is NOT my own, obviously, but rather something I found online and just had to share.

Kate Spade Wellesley Agenda

10 May 2013

This Kate Spade Wellesley agenda arrived in the mail a few days ago from a seller on eBay. I had been keeping an eye out for this style agenda in this particular color for quite some time. Having recently sold my original Kate Spade Wellesley Zip agenda in Emerald green (gorgeous color, but those darn zip binders and I just don't mesh well), I wanted to try the open binder instead. This time, in the Geranium color, which is a very vibrant red. I am happy to have won it and at a fairly good price, too.

The quality of the leather is superb. It's smooth yet grainy, not too stiff or too soft. It doesn't quite lie flat brand new, but if it's anything like my previous Wellesley agenda, it will start to lie flat after some use. There is white contrast stitching all around the edges of the planner and along the strap which is adorned with a Kate Spade New York Logo in gold colored print. Despite all the photos I've looked at online and despite already having owned a Welllesley agenda, I was still pretty surprised at how beautiful this planner is in person.

Its interior boasts a combination of leather and cream fabric lining with gold polka-dots. There are plenty of pockets and hidden compartments for storing cards, papers, and random treasures. I'm not too crazy about the pen loop which is too small to hold anything fatter than my pencil. But, then again, I'm used to disappointing pen loops, so this doesn't faze me a bit. Besides, its golden rings more than make up for it. And they measure 30 mm, so there's definitely that extra space.

The agenda came with brand new 2013 inserts which include both a month on two pages, and a week on two pages calendar, five subject tabs (Notes, To Do, Birthdays, Restaurants, and Addresses), A-Z tabs, a ruler, and several other forms that correspond to each of the sections (address sheets, to do lists, birthdays list, etc.). Like many past Kate Spade inserts, each month begins with some kind of pretty design. In celebration of Kate Spade's 20th anniversary, the theme of this years agenda pays tribute to her favorite things. Here's a look at this months view.

And an overview of the year.

The paper quality is very nice, but I'm just not a very big fan of the overall style and look of the inserts. Though the design is very pretty, it's almost too pretty for me if that makes any sense. I very much prefer plainer inserts and like the idea of adding my own style to the pages of my planner. I also don't care much for the tabbed sections (I don't keep a running list of restaurants I frequent. A quick Google search does that for me) though I'm sure these can be covered up if you wanted to, and relabeled to fit your needs. The forms don't necessarily need to be used for their intended purpose, either. The "Birthdays" lists, for example, would make great note paper and the "Restaurants" inserts could easily be used for listing personal contacts as well.

Overall, it's a very lovely agenda. A true girly-girl planner, if you will, and definitely deserves to be treated like so. It's one I'd probably use sparingly because I'm afraid to damage the leather. Especially the interior which looks like it easily attracts dirt (that cream fabric lining, for example) and is sensitive to scuffs and dings. Still, I am very happy to have the Wellesley on rotation and look forward to putting her to use. With all the new Filofax ranges coming out in the next couple of months, I wonder what new style of agendas Kate Spade has in store next?

Paperchase at Target

08 May 2013

Target has got to be, by far, one of my favorite one-stop-shops for all our household needs. I can shop for new bedsheets, an entire outfit, and ingredients for tonight's dinner, all in one place! I can never leave without a cart full of things I didn't have on my shopping list. What makes Target even more appealing is that they've recently teamed up with Paperchase, a UK based retailer of fine gifts and paper goods. For stationery addicts/impulse buyers such as myself, this means more unnecessary items in my shopping cart which makes me question if having Paperchase merchandise at my local Target is good news or bad. Or maybe both? Anyway, this cute pencil case was purchased on my recent shopping trip. Mind you, I was only there for hand sanitizer...

Sadly, you won't find a whole shopping aisle of Paperchase goodies at your local Target. Instead, you'll find a small display, usually at the end of an aisle. Regardless, when I first stumbled upon the cute merchandise set up under the ever familiar purple Paperchase logo, I'll admit I did a bit of a happy dance. I had only heard about and seen Paperchase merchandise online via their website or read about them on other peoples blog which boast their shopping trips and stationery hauls. Here in the United States, Paperchase goodies vary depending on which Target you visit. But, for the most part, you'll find a mix of things like notebooks, stickers, post-its, binders and a few other incredibly cute gifts. The designs also change from time to time, introducing new characters and themes.

Take, for example, these quirky cute owl stikers. Who-whooo could resist?

Or these pretty post-it notes?

Although I could head over to the Paperchase website, fill my virtual shopping cart with all sorts of goodies, and pay the hefty shipping fee to have it delivered to me, it's good to know I can get my stationery fix--however limited--locally. I hope they're here to stay.

A Heartbreakingly Close Look at The Baroque

03 May 2013

I have been searching for the Baroque for quite some time, and now that I finally have it in my possession, I figured it deserved a proper review. Besides, I did promise that I'd share more photos and my overall opinion about this particular Filofax once I gave her a go.

It's been over a week since I received her in the mail. It took me awhile to fully move in because I spent the most part of a day both petting and stroking its smooth, soft leather, and contemplating her overall color. I am so not a pink kind of girl, and although this shade of pink is tolerable in that it's not too bright and over the top, at the end of the day, it's still pink. However, once I opened her up and traced my fingers across the intricate design of her insides, I broke down, ditched my purple Malden, and immediately started moving things in.

Just Wanted to Say...

01 May 2013

Really, you all are. :)

I hope you've all enjoyed playing and looking at all those delicious Filofax photos as much as I have. A few of you have already messaged me asking when the next Filofax Photo-a-Day Challenge will be and I am happy to say that it will be returning. I figured since the first and second were three months apart, I'd schedule the next one for July. So, stay tuned! It'll be here before you know it.
